Faculty of Arts
The Faculty of Arts is committed to the development of knowledge with a strong scientific and social impact. With over 500 academic and support staff, we teach and conduct research in the fields of art, history, language, culture and communication, using innovative methodologies and collaborating closely across disciplines. Our research is embedded in two research institutes: the Centre for Language Studies (CLS) and the Radboud Institute for Culture & History (RICH). Approximately 2,500 students are currently enrolled with us across our three departments: the Department of History, Art History and Classics, the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures and the Department of Language and Communication. The faculty is characterised by a pleasant and open culture with various opportunities for the professional development of our staff.

1. Introduction

The curriculum in Arts and Culture Studies trains students to become broadly oriented academics with a solid theoretical foundation, interdisciplinary knowledge of the arts, and a good understanding of the cultural sector. The study programme has a Dutch-taught and English-taught specialisations. The Master’s degree specialisations in Creative Industries; Tourism and Culture; and Kunstbeleid en Kunstbedrijf (Dutch-taught) focus on the professional field. The Department of Arts and Culture Studies is currently looking for a versatile and flexible lecturer. 

2. Job description

As a lecturer, you will provide Dutch- and English-taught interactive lectures and tutorials at the Bachelor's level on art content, theory and methodology. Courses you will co-teach may include the seminars on History of the Western Arts, Research Methods in Cultural Studies, Working in the Cultural Field, and ‘Literatuur en ideologie’ (Dutch-taught). You will also supervise students individually in the first-year mentorship programme, and coordinate this programme. You will actively participate in meetings of the teaching team and think proactively about the quality of teaching. 

3. Profile

  • You have successfully completed a Master’s degree in the Humanities or a related discipline.
  • You have an interest in cultural studies research.
  • You have a strong interest in teaching and student supervision.
  • You possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Dutch (CEFR C1).
  • You have a clear vision on academic education, in line with the approach of our programme.
  • You have good social skills.
  • You are able to work in a team as well as individually.
  • You possess good self-management skills. 

4. We are

The Literary and Cultural Studies team is an enthusiastic and international team of lecturers and researchers who, among other things. teach courses in the Bachelor’s  and Master’s degree programmes in Arts and Cultural Studies. We bring together expertise in various arts disciplines and theoretical and empirical research on cultural expressions in past and present. As researchers, our staff are active in various groups within the RICH research institute.

5. We offer

  • We will give you a temporary employment contract of one year.
  • Your salary within salary scale 10 depends on your previous education and number of years of (relevant) work experience. The amounts in the scale are based on a 38-hour working week.
  • You will receive an 8% holiday allowance and an 8,3% end-of-year bonus.

  • You will receive extra days off. With full-time employment, you can choose between 30 or 41 days of annual leave instead of the statutory 20.
